White Tiger (Kenny) Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge Eureka Springs, Ark.: In the United States, all living white tigers are the result of selective inbreeding to artificially create the genetic conditions that lead to white fur, ice-blue eyes and a pink nose. Kenny was born in the care of a breeder in Bentonville, Ark., on Feb. 3, 1999. As a result of inbreeding, Kenny is mentally retarded.It's times like this I'm glad for government intervention. These are the people we should parade down the streets in shame.

I saw the photo in the Times and it made me cry. Poor Kenny; all because of humans wanting to make a buck. I hope that he's at least well cared for and not miserable. Maybe he doesn't understand enough to know he's captive (I think the normal tigers do understand that). He probably can't be around normal tigers as they would likely kill him.

that inbreeding for the sake of beauty (breeders do it with dogs all the time, i hate to tell you) often causes defects that ensure a shorter life. i guess it's a blessing. i'm with anon2 and lisab.

I have just learnt about the interbreeding of these majestic animals and I am thoroughly ashamed with myself and feel sick to my stomach. To me Kenny is absolutely beautiful!
